Direct recruitment of Postgraduate Assistants/Physical Education Directors-Gr.I for
Government Higher Secondary Schools -2011-12
PROSPECTUS
1. Government of Tamil Nadu has proposed to recruit Postgraduate Assistants / Physical
Education Directors-Gr.I for appointment in Government Higher Secondary Schools. The posts
will be filled up on the basis of marks secured in the written competitive examination, and
weightage marks awarded after Certificate Verification, following communal reservation as per
existing rules of the Government of Tamilnadu.
2. Scale of Pay: Rs.9,300 - 34,800 G.P. Rs.4800/-
3. The estimated vacancies for Postgraduate Assistants / Physical Education Directors-Gr.I are
given in Annexure-I:
4. Communal Reservation: Communal reservations and reservation for Tamil Medium students
are followed as per G.O.Ms.No. 65 Personnel and Administrative Reforms (K)Department,
datedc 27.05.2009, G.O.Ms.No. 145 Personnel and Reforms(S) Department dated 30.09.2010
and Government letter No.20635/K2/2009-3 dated 27.05.2009. Reservation for G.T, BC,
MBC/DNC, SC, ST and BC Muslims will as follows: GT 31% Backward Class (other than
Muslims) - 26.5% Backward Class Muslims - 3.5% Most Backward Class /Denotified
Communities / 20% Scheduled Caste - 18% (which includes special reservation for
Scheduled Caste Arunthathiars on perferential basis ) Scheduled Tribe - 1% The resevation
of vacancies for women 30%
5. Special Reservation: Reservation for the Physically challenged will be followed as per the
following G.Os:
a. G.O.Ms.No.99, P & AR (Per.S) Dept. dated 26.02.2008
b. G.O.No.87, SW and NMS Dept., dated 01.07.2008
c. G.O.Ms.No. 53 SW and NMS Dept. dated 11.04.2005.

e. G.O.Ms.No.159 P & AR Dept. dated 27.06.1994.

Physically Challenged (1%) and visually impaired(1%) will be followed as per
Government orders in force.Reservation for visually impaired(2%) will be applicable in the case
of Non- Science subjects only. For science subject 3% reservation will be applicable for physical
challenged only.
Physically challenged persons may also apply if they fully satisfy all the prescribed
qualifications. The case of each such applicant will be considered on merits for the posts
concerned, if the applicant is found to be otherwise suitable and if the medical authorities are
satisfied that the physical/handicaps is not such as would render him incapable of efficiently
discharging the duties of the post for which he is selected as per G.O.Ms.No. 704, Public
(Services-A) Department, dated15th April 1964.
6. Conditions for Special Categories:
(a) Visually Impaired: Candidates should possess certificate in prescribed format from the
Competent Authority for one of the following: (i) Total absence of sight on both eyes, or (ii)
Visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with correcting lenses or
(iii) Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degrees or worse. One-eyed
visually impaired persons cannot claim reservation against Visually Impaired category.
(b) Physically Challenged: Candidates claiming reservation under the differently- abled
(Physically Challenged) category should possess certificate in prescribed format from the
Competent Authority for at least 40% disability.
Note: All certificates should have been obtained prior to the last date for submission of filled-in
Application announced in the recruitment notification published in Newspapers.
7. Qualifications: Candidates should possess M.A./M.Sc./M.Com. in the relevant subject with
B.Ed. As per G.O.Ms.No. 361 School Education Department dated 31.12.1999. Candidates
should have studied the same subject in Bachelor's Degree and Master’s Degree, both for
academic subjects and Languages. For the post of Physical Education Director-Grade-I, the
candidates should have any Bachelor's Degree with M.P.Ed. Degree. All degrees should be
from UGC/NCTE recognised Universities only. The candidate should possess knowledge of
Tamil of 10th Standard level. The candidates apply only for which the vacanices are notified
and subject code numbers assigned. The candidates applying for the posts mentioned in
Annexure I should have passed Tamil Language as Part I or Part II upto SSLC and PUC/
Higher Secondary Course levels. If not, he/she should pass Tamil Language Text conducted
by the Tamilnadu Public Service Commission within two years from the date of their
appointment.
8. Equivalent Qualifications: If a candidate claims that the educational qualification in the
subject possessed by him/her is equivalent to though not the same as those prescribed for the
appointment , he/she has to produce the letter of equivalence issued by the competent
authority i.e. Government of Tamil Nadu. However, the claim would be subject to the decision

of the Equivalence Committee constituted as perG.O.Ms.No.441, P&AR(R) Department, dated
20-12-1993 and the decision of the Government.
9. Employment Registration: Only those candidates who have registered in Professional and
Executive Employment Office, Chennai for Postgraduate Assistant or Physical Education
Director-Gr.I on or before the last date for submission of filled-in applications, and who hold
updated registration card are eligible to apply for the posts.
10. Age: Candidates should not be over 57 years as on 1-7-2012 as the age of superannuation is
58 years.
11. Application form and Examination fee: The Application Form (OMR formal) along with
Prospectus can be obtained (from 16.03.2012 to 30.03.2012) in person from the Office of the
Chief Educational Officers of all 32 Districts in Tamilnadu on payment of Rs.50/- (Rupees
fifty only) in cash towards the cost of the Application Form and Prospectus as shown in the
Annexure II.
The candidates are requested to pay the examination fees Rs.500/- (Rs.250/- for
SC/ST and Physically Challenged) and the Bank charges Rs.50/- in any Branchof STATE BANK
OF INDIA using only the prescribed challan attached with the prospectus. Payment of
examination fees in any other method will not be accepted. The prescribed challan contain
certain details the fees, Bank charges, Application number and account number for the specific
recruitment candidates have to write the Name of the Branch and its code number, where the
candidates make the payment and other details in the relevant columns.
The Bank's copy of the challan will be retained at the Bank and Teachers
Recruitment Board's copy and candidates copy will be handed over to the candidates after
receiving the payment and making necessary entries.
Candidates have to submit the Teachers Recruitment Board's copy of the challan with
the Application form and keep the candidate's copy with him/her. The Teachers Recruitment
Board's copy of the challan should not be passed/ stapled/ tied, but it has to be kept in a
separate envelope and submitted alongwith the appllication form without fail.
12. Last date for Submission of Application Forms: Candidates are advised to submit the filledin
forms in person at the Office of the Chief Educational Officer concerned, and obtain
acknowledgement for the same. Candidates are advised NOT to send the filled-in Application
forms by post or in person to the Teachers Recruitment Board, Chennai-6. Applications
received in any form other than the one issued by Teachers Recruitment Board or Chief
Educational Officers shall be rejected.
Note: Candidates can submit the Application form at any CEO’s office. Don’t send the forms
to TRB.

13. Scheme of Examination: The written examination will consist of a single paper of 3 hours
duration with 150 marks. The question paper will be of objective type with multiple-choice
questions. The marks allotted to the Main Subject, Educational Methodology and General
Knowledge are as follows:
Main subject 110 marks
Educational Methodology 30 marks
General Knowledge 10 marks
The candidates are required to answer the questions in the special OMR answer sheet
provided, by shading a single answer for each question in blue or black ball-point pen only.
The Syllabus for the subjects as published in Gazette No.611, dated 10-9-2001 and Gazette
No. 356, dated 30.5.2002 will be covered in the Examination. The candidates will be provided
with the yellow copy of the answer sheet for their reference. The decision of Chairman,
Teachers Recruitment Board on eligibility of the candidate to sit for the Examination will be
final.
14. Written Examination: The Written Competitive Examination will be held on 27.05.2012 from
10.00 A.M to 1.00 P.M. The venue for the Examination will be intimated in the Hall Ticket. The
Hall Tickets will be sent by Teachers Recruitment Board directly to the eligible candidates. If
the Hall Ticket is not received before THREE days of the examination date, the candidate may
refer our TRB website (http://trb.in.inc.in) for details. The candidate willbe allowed for
examination after verifying his/her identify with the nominal roll in the Examination centre
before the examination day. Visually impaired candidate will be allowed assistance of scribes,
who are not Graduate/ Post Graduates in the respective subjects. The decision of the
Chairnman,Teachers Recruitment Board on the eligibility of the candidate to sit for the
examination will be final.
Written examination Results: (i) The Roll-Number-wise Mark List of all candidates, and (ii)
Roll numbers of candidates short-listed for Certificate Verification, based on written examination
marks and the communal reservation, will be published in the Notice Board of TRB and in the
website of TRB viz. http://trb.tn.nic.in. The publication of results will be announced through
Press / Media.
Note: If more than one candidate secures the lowest or same cut-off mark for the particular
communal turn, all such candidates will be called for CV. Hence the number of
candidates called for CV may be slightly higher than the number of vacancies
15. Certificate Verification: Candidates short-listed as above shall bring the original and
attested copies of all Certificates as stated in the call letter for Certificate Verification. All
Certificates (except Teaching Experience) should have been issued prior to the last date for
submission of filled-in Applications. Certificates issued after the cut-off date will not be
considered. Teaching experience certificate issued by Headmaster / Principal of the School
should be countersigned by the Inspecting Officer concerned. (Specimen copy of Teaching
Experience Certificate is attached in Annexure-III).
(a) Community Certificate: Permanent Community Card Certificate obtained from the undermentioned
authorities on or before the last date for submission of filled-in applications, is
necessary for candidates claiming reservation category.
i. ST - Revenue Divisional Officer dated after 11-11-1989
ii. SC - Tahsildar of native taluk of the candidate
iii. BC / MBC / DNC - Headquarters Deputy Tahsildar or Special Deputy Tahsildar
Note: Married women should possess Community Certificate issued in father’s name only.

(b) Visual Impaired candidates should possess certificate in prescribed format from the
Competent Authority for one of the following: (i) Total absence of sight, or (ii) Visual acuity
not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (snellen) in the better eye with correcting lenses or (iii)
Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degrees or worse. One-eyed
blind persons cannot claim reservation against Blind or PHO category.
(c) Orthopaedically handicapped candidates should possess certificate in prescribed format
from the Competent Authority for at least 40% disability.
16. Weightage marks: Weightage marks as detailed below will be given after Certification
Verification for the short-listed candidates. These marks will be added to Written Examination
marks for preparing the final merit-cum-communal Selection list.

17. Selection: The provisional list of candidates selected for appointment after Certificate
Verification and after addition of weightage marks for period of wait in Employment Exchange
and Teaching experience for the short-listed candidates, will be published in the Notice Board
of TRB and in the website viz. http://trb.tn.nic.in. Intimation to the provisionally selected
candidates will also be sent by post individually. The final eligibility of the candidates will be
subject to the decision of Teachers Recruitment Board. The appointment orders will be issued
by the concerned Department to which the candidates are provisionally selected.
18. No T.A./D.A. will be paid. Candidates will have to bear their own expenses to attend the written
Examination and the Certificate Verification at Teachers Recruitment Board Chennai, if called.
19. Special Instructions:
a) The Application Forms should be carefully filled up. The passport size photograph should
be pasted in the space provided and should not be stapled. The photograph should not be
attested and it should be free from any mark, as the same has to be used for printing the
Hall Tickets.
b) Incomplete Application Forms will be summarily rejected. Canvassing in any forms will be
a disqualification for selection.
c) The Application form should not be folded. The Application form should be submitted in
the envelope issued along with the form.
d) Candidates are should submit the Teachers Recruitment Board's copy of the payment
challan in a separate envelope with the application without fail.The challan should not be
pasted/stapled/tied with the application form.
e) Candiates are hereby informed that all the certificates of their eligibility and documents
should be obtained on or before the closing date of submission of the filled in application
alone will be considered..
f) The Subject code should be clearly filled up in the space allotted in the Application form.
The name of the subject should be entered exactly as shown in the application form.

g) As the form is computer readable and pre-programmed, any information written outside the
boxes provided will not be read by the computer. Hence, altering the form or adding any
additional box willresult in, your application becoming invalid.
h) A photocopy ofthe filled and signed application form with acknowledgement may preserved.
i) If any candidate writes or marks anything unconnected to the question or any irrelevant /
impertinent matter in the written examination, will lead to disqualification of his / her
candidature.
j) Electronic gadgets/ Clerk's Table/ Calculators are not permitted inside the Examination
Hall.
k) In the matter of recruitmen, the decision of the TRBis final. Any representation for nonselection
will not be entertained at any cost.
l) Application forms will not be accepted after 5.30 p.m. on 30.03.2012
